Holland's Welcome To Auckland
AUCKLAND, Yfon. (PA.) Sustained cheering greeted the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) when he rohe to speak at the civic reception attended by about 2500 people in the Town Hall this afternoon.
Handkerchiefs and gloves were waved. The guest was accorded musical honours.
He would always remember the welcome accorded him, Mr Holland said.
“I arrived in Auckland—a city I love—l found friends with flowers to greet me.”
Referring to.the Parliamentary dedication service in St Andrew’s Church yesterday, he said it was an experience he would never forget. The Prime Minister also introduced to the Town Hail gathering Auckland members of Parliament. STATE NOT FAIRY GODMOTHER
A warning that the people of New Zealand should not expect too much of any individual or of. the state, was issued by Mr Holland.
The state was not a “fairy godmother” which could distribute things to the people unless these had first been taken from the people, he said.
