Celebrations to mark the bOCIn anniversary of the coming of ti.s Maoris to New Zealand are being plumed at i uawahia for December of next year. The proposal to observe the oeccasion was discussed b.y elders of the tribes claiming descent from the occupants of the canoes, which arrived about 1350, at Turangawaewae Pa recently. A consideration in fixing a date for the celebrations is the memorial meeting-house to the Maori Battalion which is to be erected at Ngaruawahia. It is hoped that this may be finished in time for the celebrations.

The full damages claimed, £4563, were awarded Eileen Olive Harrison, a widow, b.y a jury in Wellington yesterday. A new fish has been dicovered in New Zealand waters, according to Mr A. W. B.’ Powell, assistant-director of the Auckland Museum. It is a species of “angler fish," so called because of a spine on its upper lip in the front of its nose that looks like a fishingrod. It lives at the bottom of the sea and was found at about 27 fathoms. The specimen taken to Mr Powell was found by Mr R. C. Jennings o(T Flat Rock, near Kawau.
