NZRU Council Meets Today
WELLINGTON, Fri. (P. A.).—Matters of interest to various Rugby unions were discussed at today’s council meeting of the NZRFU. Following correspondence from Wairarapa regarding a division of the proceeds of matches against overseas teams by the combined WairarapaBush XVs, it was decided to draw the attention of the 3ush union to a previous decision that in such cases the whole of the ground rent (33 1-3 per cent) is to go to the union promoting the match. A protest was received from Ashburton regarding the tentative allocation of a match by the 1030 British team against a combined side at Timaru.
The council, after expressing sympathy with Ashburton’s claims, reaffirmed the executive decision regarding the tentative itinerary. The council also confirmed the executive’s decision that free passes to matches controlled by local unions on behalf of the New Zealand union, could be given only to referees. This followed a discussion of Canterbury’s proposal that passes should include club officials and coaches, the total concerned in Christchurch being COl.
