Sincerity
“I cast no doubt on the sincerity of our opponents. They believe ifi socialism just as fervently as wo believe in private ownership. “They believe that the state can spend the people’s money better than they can, just as firmly as we believe the people themselves are the best judges of what they want. "World experience has shown that socialism is a stepping stone to Communism.
“We do not say that Mr Fraser and his friends are Communists. We do say that their objectives are the same.
“In 11 ancient countries of Europe, freedom partly lost under socialism has now been completely lost under Communism, and thus 100,000.000 people have been enslaved.” "Much of the trouble in industry is being caused by Communists,” said Mr Holland.
"In dealing with Communists our first thought was to declare the Communist Party a subversive organisation, but on further consideration we have decided that that is not the best approach to the problem. “We think that the power and influence of Communists will be reduced if steps are taken to ensure that union officials are elected by secret ballot at properly supervised elections.
“Secondly, we will strengthen _ the laws against sedition and subversion. “Thirdly, there will be fearless enforcement of Ihe law, and fourthly, we will make provision for adequate penalties on unions and on law-breakers, that can be enforced at law."
