Convent School’s Fancy Dress Ball

Children from many Whangarei schools enjoyed the fancy dress ball conducted by St Joseph's Convent at the Tov/n Hall on Tuesday night. To the music of Mrs H. McCarthy at the piano, the youngsters capered to the strains of such popular numbers as Oats and Beans arid Barley Grow, the Paw Paw Patch, and the Grand Old Duke of York. Costumes representing many nations and eras formed a mixture of colours never seen except on such occasions. While the children enjoyed themselves, parents watched fondly from the circle and rear of the hall. The hall, which was filled almost to capacity had been decorated by Mesdames A. Viscoe, S. McCabe and M. Martin. Mesdames W. Jones. H. G. Carruth, C. J. Dent, T. B. Marshall *and C. Reed had the difficult task of judging. The special prizes awarded were donated by them. Supper was in the hands of the Catholic Women’s League, Mr T. O’Carroll was the popular M.C., while Ces Wright’s Band supplied the music for the grand marches and adult dancing.
