'Better In Hands Of The'Farmers'
“This money would be better in the hands of the farmers, instead of giving it to somebody else to spend,” said the chairman of the Whangarei Coop. Dairy Co., Ltd. (Mr E. S. Tremaine) at the company’s annual meeting this morning when referring to the. new price increase for butter. It meant a rise, together with the 1.395 d wage increase, of l£d per lb. butterfat for the 1949-50 season, he said. “We now have 12/- per cwt going to stabilisation—you heard Mr Nash last night saying how much was in these accounts. “They are investing this money and it is being invested in Government stock. “I say it could be invested to better advantage by passing it on to the farmers so they could increase their farms’ capacity.” Mr Tremaine added.
