Marine Hit Hospital Doctor
AUCKLAND. Fri. (P.A.).—A plea >: guilty to ii charge of assaulting Dr Edwin Sayes at the Auckland Hospital was entered in the Police Court yesterday by Leonard James CanterY.iry. 27. Royal Marine, from the cruiser Bcllona.
The police said Canterbury and a friend took'too •much liquor, the other man becoming very drunk. Canterbury called an ambulance inch took both mm to hospital. Dr Sayes after an examination told Canterbury that there was nothing tf• c matter with his friend except that Ire had taken too much liquor.
Canterbury became annoyed and : truck the doctor violently in the face.
He later apologised. A Royal Marines officer told the court 'that Canterbury was a most satisfactory marine, not addicted to drink.
Questioned by magistrate. Canterbury said he was “wrangled by the ,docior’s officious manner.” Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M.. said it was :• bad case and fined Canterbury £5 or 10 imprisonment.
