Sugar To Be Imported
WELLINGTON Fri. (P.A.)—lt has been decided to augment New Zealand’s productions of sugar by the importation of 10,000 tons of 1 refined sugar from an overseas source. The sugar is to arrive before ‘he end of the year and most of it is destined for the South Island. This announcement was made in Christchurch today by the Minister of Supply (Mr Nordmeyer). The first shipment, said Mr Nordmeyer, is due late next month, and the additional 10,000 tons should ensure ample supplies of sugar for the jam-making season. The Minister added that shipping space had been booked for regular shipments. It was anticipated that the first two shipments would be of 1000 tons each, to be followed by two further shipments each of 4000 tons.
