Fire On Roof Of Bank St Building
When a shed housing an incinerator on the roof of the Public Trust building in Bank Street caught fire shortly after 8 o’clock this morning, the Whangarei Fire Brigade was promptly on the scene. Smoke was noticed by a passer-by who rang the alarm at the intersection of Bank and Cameron Streets at .8.30. The shed is of corrugated iron with wood planking qt the eaves and corners - * , . . „ Apparently a sack of cut wood fell against the incinerator, caught fire and, in turn set fire to the wooden parts of the shed. The flames were brought under control by bucket pumps before much damage occurred.
