On measurement her tonnage proved to be 22,000 tons which is 3000 tons larger than was estimated at the launching on January 12 and .considerably larger than any other ship in the company's service. She accommodates 400 first-class passengers. Her sister ship, the Rangitane, was launched at Clydebank on June 30.
British Application LONDON, Fri., (1.10 p.m.).— The British United Press Paris correspondent says the council of 19 European Marshall Plan nations today rejected a suggestion sponsored by the Dutch and Italian delegations that the British request for three-fifths of this year’s aid be given special treatment. The council decided that the British request must go through the usual chain of committees.
This, it is pointed out, means that it may not come before the council until its August meeting.
