Hobson

The Hobson report was dealt with from a basis of ridings. Nil entries were given for no less than six rid-mgs—-Aratapu, Awakino. Tangowahine, Tangiteroria, Oman a and Arapohue. In two ridings only, Kaihu and Waipoua, did there seem to be appreciable areas of suitable land immediately available.

The figure for Kaihu was 7001) acres, that for Waipoua 5000 acres. This total of 12,000 acres was given as the summarised total for the county. In regard to Kaihu riding, it was stated that Marriner’s Block (16.928 acres) and Powell's Block (1488 acres) were already under investigation by the Government.

It was estimated that 6000 acres at Marriner’s and 1000 acres at Powell's were suitable for development along tlie lines adopted on the Mahuta and Bailey’s blocks.

In regard to Waipoua riding, four different areas were listed. Most promising seemed to be two bush sections of the Waipoua State Forest area, totalling 4450 acres, and an area of about 5000 acres round the Kai Iwi Lakes. In each case, the land was well watered. About 75 nor cent of each could be brought into production quickly.
