CUSHY’’ JOBS FOR DEFEATED CANDIDATES
The recent appointment of Mr Ben Roberts, ex-M.P. for Wairarapa, as a Director of the Reserve Bank is another reminder of the policy of the Labour Government in handing out jobs to party henchmen. With unfailing regularity Labour candidates and former members of Parliament are appointed to the Legislative Council or to high Government positions.
Mr J. Barclay was appointed High Commissioner in Australia, Mr J. Thorn High Commissioner in Canada, and Mr C. W. Boswell, Minister to Moscow. And that is not all, the former Labour member for Waitaki, Mr D. Barnes, was appointed a director of the State Advances Corporation, and Mr C. A. Barrel!, who was defeated at Hamilton, was appointed to the Land Sales Court. More recently Mr Morgan Williams, another defeated candidate, was appointed to the Dairy Marketing Commission. And so it goes on. There is only one remedy. Change the Government in November. (N.Z. National Party).
