26 Pros Honorary Members Of MCC
LONDON, Fri. —Twenty-six retired professional cricketers have been invited to accept honorary membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club.
They are:'C. / J. Barnett (Gloucester). S. F. Barnes (Warwick). L. C. Braund (Surrey), W. E. Bowes (Yorkshire), G. Duckworth (Lancashire), A. P. Freeman (Kent). G. Geary (Leicester), G Gunn, senr. (Notts), J. W. Hearne (Middlesex), E. Henriren (Middlesex). G. H. Hirst (Yorkshire), .J. B. Hobbs (Surrey), H. Larwood (Notts), M. Leyland (Yorkshire). C. P. Mead (Hampshire). E. Paynter (Lancashire), W. Rhodes (Yorkshire), A. C. Russell (Essex), A. Sandham (Surrey), E. J. Smith (Warwickshire), H. Strudwick (Surrey), H. Sutcliffe (Yorkshire), M. W. Tate (Sussex), E. Tyldesley (Lancashire), W. E. Voce (Notts), F. E. Woolley (Kent). At their meeting earlier in the month MCC members were told by their president, the Duke of Edinburgh, that honorary life membership would be restricted to the really great, and would be a genuine recognition of their services to the game. The oldest invited is George Hirst, who will be 78 in September, and the youngest are Voce and Barnett, both 39 years old. The invitations will give particular pleasure and encouragement to Mead and Braund, who have. not been favoured by good health during their retirement.
