First Woman Ship Deserter ?
WELLINGTON, Fri. (Sp.)—Appearing before Mr A. A| McLauchlan, S.M., in Wellington yesterday, Lilian Gladys Fegan. 40, cook, was charged with ship desertion in New Zealand. It was stated that she was probably the first woman to be charged in New Zealand. She appeared with her husband, Peter' Joseph Fegan, 36, and both pleaded guilty to ,deserting the Dominion Monarch on February ' 26. Stating that to fine husband and wife each £SO would be rather drastic, Mr McLauchlnn imposed a fine of £SO on the husband only.
