170 gns For Cow At Greenrushes Dispersal

THE highest price for a Jersey cow at this season’s round of pedigree sales was obtained at Mr S. A. Pyle’s Greenrushes dispersal sale at Ruakaka yesterday. For 170gn Mr R. J. Kerridge, of Auckland, purchased Elwood First Choice, VHC, by Maple Light Flag from Elwood Duchess. VHC, and doubly bred to Fairy Flag’s Raleigh (Imp.), CBB. This seven-year-old IMR cow, with a record of 16501 b fat in four lactations, was the star lot of the catalogue.

With 80 head of cattle on just over 80 acres at On 6 Tree Pomt, Mr Pyle had decided to sell his herd right down to his rising two-year-old heifers. Exhibited with success at the Whangarei shows, the Greenrushes herd has been tested each year. The 1947-48 average was 4341 b fat. The stud comprised 37 females In milk, three VHCs, 22 H.C.s and two Cs and 12 rising three and four-year-old cows. Seven oi Mr Pyle’s foundation stock qualified for the IMP in. a five-year period.
