To date the Talent Quest conducted by the Whangarei District Progressive Society has realised a total of £lO7/18/9. This was revealed at a meeting of the society last night. Takings from the opening night up to the fifth week were £l9/16/-, £3l/12/-, £2O/0/3, £lB/13/-. and £lB/7/6. Members were invited to put forward suggestions which would help to it tract patron lgo. Mr A. W. Robinson maintained that the advertising was insufficient, or of the wrong type.
ATMOSPHERE •‘We hoped at the start tnat the show would pull itself through,” commented the president (Mr J. a. Johnson;. Mr W. H. Corbett said the atmosphere was not the same as at last years quests. Mr J. vV. Macarthur said the first weeks’ admission price of 2/- had oeen tfiougnt too much. “The public are just not taking the quest up, rein anted Mr K. Hasiett. Devices to attract tne puDnc were discussed, among mem the idea ot throwing bars or chocolate and oranges at the audience. “Why not put them up in dozens in bags,” suggested Mr C. "The first two nights were Hops last year, but this time we have had five flops in a row," the president said. To avoid any antagonism towards the present method of determining the winning competitor in each section the society decided to appoint a panel of judges. It was further decided that the semifinals and finals be held on June 22 and 29 and the finals for the Northland Contest would be held on July 18, 19 and 20, all to be judged by the panel of judges.
