Last Kiwi From East
WELLINGTON, Tue. (P.A.)—The last New Zealand soldier from Japan, Pte. W. O. Simpson, of « Auckland, returned today by the Monowai from Sydney and was given an “Army inception.” He was placed under arrest by a sergeant-major and a corporal. Simpson told pressmen that on November 23, when his draft of J Force was about to leave for ; New Zealand, he was so busy saying good-bye to his fi’iends that he missed the embarkation train, re- . maining the lone Kiwi in the Far East. j The best thing he could do, he said, was to surrender himself to the Americans, and he remained with them, for three months. Simpson, who is 39, said he was born in Fiji and had lived most of his life in New Zealand.
