Milk Production Down Last Month
Milk supplied to the Whangarei Milk Treatment House during April totalled 56;352 gallons, compared with 48,307 gallons in April, 1948. Sales of milk, including cream, for the month totalled 47,913 gallons, as against 42,778 for April last year. * Production was down 3009 gallons compared with the previous month. Last month it was necessary to call on only one accommodating supplier. This was for cream only, the amount being 18.8 gallons.
* The milk received at the milk treatment house during April was distributed by using 38,258 gallons for the town, 2588 for schools, and 1785 as icecream milk.
This made a total of 43,621 gallons supplied. Sweet cream sales totalled 82.2 gallons, 37.5 gallons went to the hospital, while 408.5 gallons were used for icecream making. A surplus of 8439 gallons of milk was diverted to dairy factories for butter manufacture.
