Dunedin Wool Sale A Welcome surprise
DUNEDIN. Tue. (P.A.) Following the low values obtained at the recent Christchurch sale, sellers of wool at the -V'th and final Dunedin auction yesteVJay received a welcome surprise. Prices exceeded those of the previous Dunedin sale and practically every class of wool met with a keen demand.
There was a widespread inquiry by Bradford and Continental buyers, who were all most anxious to obtain wool. New Zealand mills operated sparingly, only taking odd lots of the better classes.
The entry included a number of clips of good crossbred, as i well as a fair showing of lambs' wool. FINE TYPES IMPROVE
All fine wools of better class showed an improvement of 6d to lOd per lb on the previous Dunedin sale, and in some cases an even further advance. Crossbred wools were better by 3d to 6d per lb. Some lots passed at the previous sale advanced by more than 12d per lb. Poorer class wools, crutchings and oddments did not have the same ready sale and there were passings of these. The top price was obtained by Mr G. P. Chewings, of Mossburn, who sold three bales of super three-quarterbred for 59d and four bales of Merino at 57d.
The number of bales offered totalled 16,545, including 13,433 of new season’s wool and 3112 of stock wool offered on behalf of the New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission. In most cases the stock wool had a good sale.
