No Lord Mayors
WELLINGTON, Fri. (P.A.) The Mayors of Wellington and Auckland will not become Lord Mayors. The Government does not propose to alter the status of mayors of New Zealand cities.
This was stated today by the Mir ister of Internal Affairs (Mr Parry).
The deputy Mayor of Wellington (Mr R. L. Macalister), commenting on Mr Porrv's announcement in the absence of the Mayor (Mr Appleton) said he thought it a pity the status of the major of the capital city of the Dominion, at least, should not bo recognised and Drought in line with the status of mayors in the capitals of other parts of the British Commonwealth.
