11 -Year-Old Whangarei Artist
Artistic ability begins to show up very early in some people's lives,, and it certainly is doing so in the case of Mervyn Gunson an 11-year-old Whangarei boy. He has just completed a window decoration at the Kensington Book Club in Kamo Road.. The work is in the nature of a frieze done in water colours on the window. It depicts Santa Claus sitting in his sleigh, which is driven by a team of six prancing reindeer. Much thought and planning has obviously been put into the attractive and well-executed design, which is about five feet long and extends almost the full length of the window. No transfer was used —-it was done freehand —and occupied about five hours of youijg Mervyn’s time in the evening's. This same boy drew much praise for a previous display he did in the same window during the Whangarei Road Safety week campaign.
If he feels inclined to stick to this sort of work there should be every chance of a good future for him.
