Stewart is. home For Government
INVERCARGILL. Thu. (P.Ad—The generosity of Miss Noeline Baker in presenting to the Government her beautiful Stewart Island residence “Moturau Moana,” with its many acres of untouched native bush and attractively landscaped gardens, was warmly commended by speakers at the ceremony yesterday afternoon, when Miss Baker officially handed over the property to the Minister of Lands (Mr Skinner) in the presence of a large attendance of Stewart Island residents. The ceremony took place in brilliant sunshine in the garden of the residence which in future will be used by forestry and botany students as a training centre. Appreciation of the great value, of Miss Baker’s gift and his assurance that it would be put to good use by the Government was expressed by Mr Skinner, who said that from a botanical point of view alone the property ■was ideal for studies of that science.
