Carpenters' Pay Rates Raised
WELLINGTON, Thu. (Sp.L—An increase of 2ld an hour, bringing the rate to 3/91d, has been granted by the Arbitration Court in making a new award for the New Zealand Carpenters and Joiners’ Union. The award is effective from next Monday. ( Workers in charge are to be paid \an extra 2/6 a day, an increase of 3d.
The Court has altered the clause covering pay for Saturday, Sunday and holiday work. Any worker required to work on one of these days is to receive not less than four hours’ pay at overtime rates, and if five hours or more are worked not less than eight hours’ pay at overtime rates is to be received. Another alteration gives a worker three hours’ pay, instead of two, at ordinary rates if he attends the place of work and is stood down because there is no work.
If" this happens at the beginning of the day because of the weather, pay is to be'for two hours.
