Ngararatunua Open, Kamo School Closed
Ngararatunua School, which was closed by its committee on Monday following the death of a poliomyelitic case at Kamo, was reopened this morning.
Kamo School is still closed. “We are leaving the matter to the discretion of parents,” said the secretary of the Ngararatunua School Committee (Rftr G. E. Bedggood) today.
“My committee has received advice from the Auckland Education Board that the Health Department is against ihe closing of the school. "As the statutory three-day period during which we can keep the school closed has elapsed, we have decided to reopen.” The headmaster would be at the school to take care of any children whose parents decided to send them along, Mr Bedggood added.
No advice as to whether the Kamo School should be reopened has yet been received from the Minister of Health or the Education Board by the Kamo School Committee, according to a member of the committee (Mrs G. Elliott). The school will remain closed in the meantime.
