Wagon Shortage Causes Coal Loss
HUNTLY. Tue. (Sp.L—An insufficient supply of railway wagons caused a loss in coal production estimated at between 400 and 500 tons for several mines in the Huntly district yesterday. During the day the Railway Department supplied 426 empty wagons, compared with an average of 350, but mine managers said the wagons were not on hand in time to continue steady production. With wool and manure competing vTfh coal for the trucks, the shortage is considered seasonable.
Managers said they had been on a “hand-to-mouth” basis for two or three weeks, the position being aggravated as the miners speeded up production
