Slav Bloc Attacks ERP
PARIS, Fri. (10.30 a.m.)—'The United Nations General Assembly rejected Poland’s plan to outlaw trade discrimination as a political weapon. Voting was 33 to 6, with 8 abstentions.
The Slav Bloc bitterly attacked the European Recovery Programme. Dr Oscar Lange (Poland) declared that the United States was carrying on an economic cold war against Eastern European countries. “The use of economic power to influence the policies of another country is inadmissible,” he said. Mr Willard Tho'rp (United States) replied that Poland’s proposal to end “discrimination in international trade” was an attempt to discredit the European Recovery Programme and the assistance which the United States was giving to that programme.
