HAMILTOH.—“Owing to the difference in the value of edible tallow overseas and: the price farmers were receiving for the product in New Zealand, the primary, producers in;New Zealand were in effect subsidising the margarine industry to the extent of £500,000 per annum,” said Mr W. W] N. Perry, of Bruntwond, chairman of the Squth Auckland Dairy Association and Dominion president of Federated Farmers. Mr Perry said that the best edible tallow was worth £ll4 a-ton overseas, bdt margarine manufacturers in New Zealand 'were getting it for approximltely £4O a ton.
