3 Quick Centuries And 99 Against Somerset
LONDON. Subdued by brilliant centuries by Harvey, Hassett and Johnson, Somerset’s bowling lay at the mercy of the Australians •on an easy wicket, at Taunton. It was Johnson’s first century in first-class cricket and Hamence missed his century by one run. Boundaries flew from the bat and six sixes soared into the crowd or on to the grandstand roof—two each to Harvey, Johnson and K. R. Miller.
Hassell and Harvey put on 187 in 120 minutes before Hassett threw his wicket away. Johnson and Hamcnce added 195 in 108 minutes and Johnson and Miller slammed another 59 in the half-hour before stumps. Details of the scores are:—
