MRS NORTHWOOD VALLEY CHAMPION

Mrs Northwood, an intermediate, who plays on a 22 handicap, excelled herself at the week-end to win the championship of the Whau Valley ladies’ club. In the final she beat Mrs E. Day, 2 up. Against Mrs Day, she was 3 up at the turn, but Mrs Day, who plays on a 14, then revealed something of her true form and took three holes in a row. She then struck a bad patch, however, and Mrs Northwood was quick to seize the chance. Mrs Day was not seen at her best. She was very much out of luck with her putter. In the second round she ousted Miss Griffin, who is a senior player. A highlight of the tournament was the defeat in the first round of Mrs Wills, the club’s lowest marker and titleholder. , She went down to Mrs Hookham. who fell to Mrs Northwood in the semi-finals. Mrs Wills plays on a 13. one less than Mrs Day, who beat Mrs Reed, a finalist last year, in the other semi-final. The results were:— FIRST ROUND Mrs Wills beat Mrs Johnson 4 and 3: Mrs Hookham beat Mrs Wharfe G and 5: Miss Griffin beat Mrs Lovegrove 5 and 4; Mi's Northwood beat Mrs North 3 and 1; Mrs Reed beat Mrs Ford 3 and 2; Mrs McLaren beat Mrs Hayward 3 and 2; Miss Going beat Mrs Baigent 3 and 2; Mrs E. Day beat Mrs Frew by default. SECOND ROUND

Diggers Trophy Final: Mrs S. J. Snow and Mrs G. King beat Mrs Stewart and Mrs N. Adams 5 and 4.
