Oruru - Fair burn Dairy Output Up 6? Tons

KAITAIA, Tue. (Sp.).—Output of the Oruru-Fairburn Coop. Dairy Co. Ltd increased last season from 366 tons the previous year to 438 tons. The chairman of directors (Mr C. J. E. Barriball) reported this to the annual meeting of shareholders at Peria yesterday.

Compared with the average payment of 20.329 d per lb butterfat for the year ended May 31. 1947, the estimated average over all grades for the season under review was 22.239. To this was to be added the final payment of 2.50 d per lb from, the appropriation account of £8298 making a total overall payment of 25.239 d per lb. The average grade of butter manufactured for the year was 93,392 compared with 93.088 for the previous season. EXECUTIVE CHANGES Mr Barriball reported with regret the deaths during the year of two past directors in Messrs D. W. Tracey and J. A, Maria, and of one sittingdirector, Mr Wi Smith. Mr Rangi Fletcher had been appointed to fill the vacancyv

Changes had been made in the executive stall’, Mr J. Murphy replacing Mr R. Gear as store manager, and Mr C. T. Trotman being appoint-

ed secretary in place of Mr A. G Fisher.

Commenting on the past season. Mr Barriball said it was unfortunate that the increased output had not been a record for the company. The directors felt that had it not been for the deflection of a number of disloyal suppliers over the past few years, the position would have been different. A number of important decisions had been made during the year, Mr Barriball said. Rules and regulations governing the conduct of the company's affairs had been investigated thoroughly, and the memorandum of association had been amended to increase the scope of its activities in line with the most modern trends in the dairy industry. As far as possible, future trends and expansion in the cooperative industry had been anticipated, both in supplies and in other possible directions. Mr Barriball described the company’s factory at Komiti as one of the mosi modern in the North, well equipped and capable of a great increase in output. Suppliers’ loyalty was appreciated, particularly of those who had resisted efforts to deflect them. Mr Barriball’s expressed appreciation of the services of the factory manager (Mr L. W. Moore) and other executive staff members was endorsed by the meeting. TRADING DEPARTMENT The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr L. G. Thompson of Kaitaia, was reappointed auditor. Major improvements in the trading department’s operation were stressed when this was under discussion. In this connection a supplier had inferred to last year’s balance sheet a? “disgusting.” The meeting was advised that although the position for the first six months of the past season had been highly unsatisfactory, the big leeway had subsequently been made up, The directors were confident that the trading department would in future provide a very satisfactory return to suppliers. The meeting expressed its confidence in the work of the store manager (Mr Murphy) and the secretary. (Mr Trotman).

Assets totalling £24.371 were shown on the balance sheet.

Suppliers totalled 126 compared with 128 the previous season, and the over-run was 22.012 per cent compared with 22.155 per cent for 1946-47.
