Fourth Engineer Deserts Ship
AUCKLAND. Tue. (P.A.)—“li is bad enough when a seaman deserts, but when a fourth engineer leaves his ship it is a serious matter,” said a shipping company official in the Police Court today when prosecuting Sydney George Griffiths, 25, on a charge of deserting the steamer Eastgate at Auckland on August 5. Griffiths pleaded guilty and said he wished to live in New Zealand. The magistrate (Mr H. Jenner Wily) sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment.
