YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY ARE GOING TO DOGS’

DUNEDIN, Tue. (P.A.). —“Young people today are going to the dogs,” declared Mr J. R. Braithwaite at last night’s meeting of the St Kilda Borough Council. “I do not like using those words but they express what I feel.”

“There are disgraceful happenings round the city streets at night time. “The best way to prevent vandalism, I am sure, is to try to lead people along the right path. St Kilda should show the way to the city by suggesting that someone be employed to get these youths oft’ the streets by giving free entertainments. The Mayor (Mr W. Rutherford) said little vandalism ’ existed in St Kilda.

He believed, however, that there was some truth in Mr Braithwaite’s remarks.

After a suggestion had been put forward that a round table conference be held with the city council and other local bodies, it was decided to write first to the city council and bring the subject of vandalism and its prevention or cure before it.

The Rev Leyton Richares, one of the most forceful preachers, in the Congregational ministry, and leader of the Christian pacifist movement, has died in London.
