Barclay And Boswell Today's Luckiest N.Zers
WELLINGTON, Sat. (Sp.) .—Today’s luckiest New Zealanders are Charles W. Boswell. Minister to Moscow, and James G. Barclay, High Commissioner in Australia.
Both will benefit substantially from the alteration in the exchange rate, economists say. From now on, Mr Boswell’s income will be up by some 6000 roubles, which, even in the Russian language, is money. Mr Barclay will receive a similar lift, but not in robulcs. According to estimates presented in the House of Representatives on Thursday night, Messrs Boswell and Barclay each receives £ISOO a year. or.
£SOO less than the Minister to Washington. With the addition of' approximately 20 per cent to their salaries as a result of the appreciation of the New Zealand pound, each will now receive £IBOO. In addition, if Mr Boswell shares in the £6297 shown in the Estimates as "location allowances" for his legation, it is just possible that in “real wages” tie will be receiving considerably more than "the rate for the job.”
