Values Remain High At North Stock Sales
WET weather in Northland during the past week did not affect the size of yardings at various stock sales and prices remained at the high levels reached last week. A slight advance in values of slips and stores was recorded in the pig sections.
Heavy prime cows sold at high rales in the Middle North, following last week’s trend at Waiotira. Prices went as high as £23/10/- for cows, and at Kaikohe bullocks made to £24/17/0. There was no let-up in the demand for good quality dairy cows and heifei ? close to protit. and the high level of prices continued. Numerous sales were made at £l6 to £l7. Late calvers also said steadily at prices considerably better than those ruling at the same period last year The inquiry for yearlings continued, but again few were offering'. . j weaners, slips and stores became even | more pronounced. Store pig prices rose to £5/10/- for large sorts, while smaller stores and slips sold equally well. In general they were slightly more expensive than last week. Weaners j continued to be in demand and values! were firm. Beef cattle were in short supply, with a consequent keen inquiry. Cow i beef sold at over £3 per 1001 b., with) ox beef about 5/- dearer. Few' fat sheep were offering and, prices ranged to £3/5/- for prime wethers. j
