Prisoner's Brief Escape
KAITAIA, Fri. (Sp.). Escaping from the Kaitaia police cells this morning. a 17f -year-old Maori prisoner was recaptured within half an hour by Sergeant H. J. Harrington, ofticer-in-churge of the Kaitaia Police District, with the assistance of three townspeople. The prisoner, who had been committed to two years’ Borstal at Tuesday’s court sitting for breaking, entering and theft at Sweetwater, made a dash for liberty when taking breakfast.
Leaping a wire fence he ran for shelter behind the business area but was apprehended some three-quarters of a mile from the police station before reaching open country. Cornered by Sergeant Harrington and his volunteer assistants, he submitted without resistance.
