Mormons Buy Big Auckland House
AUCKLAND, Thu. (Sp).—One of the finest homes in Remuera, the former residence of the late Mr M. M. Louisson, at -514 Remuera Road, is to be sold, subject to the consent of the land sales committee, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' mission, for £12,000. It is intended to use the premises for the mission headquarters and for housing the President, Mr G. C. Young, his family and eight of the Mormon missionaries in the Auckland district.
The home is occupied at present by Mrs Louisson, widow of the late owner.
The sale is expected to represent one of the biggest single property deals in dollars concluded in recent years. Arrangements have been made by the Mormon Church here, with its headquarters at Salt Lake City, in the United States of America, to provide about $38,000 to purchase (be property. This sum is said to be additional to the $13,000, or £4500 which is spent each month on missionary and other work among the 12,000 Mormons in New Zealand.
