Pointer On Charge Of MonsSoyghter
WELLINGTON, Wed. (P.A.).—The hearing of a charge of manslaughteragainst Bertrand Alexander, 25, painter, opened in the Magistrates’ Court today before Mr E. Lee, S.M. The charge concerns the death of Francis Phillip Minogue, who died in Wellington Hospital on December 25 after he had been found lying unconscious in a Wellington lane on Christmas Eve.
Frederick Sipos said in evidence that he had heard Minogue falling to the ground in Dixon Street after he had passed a scuffle in which deceased and another man were involved.
Witness then saw Minogue lying on the ground. He appeared to be unconscious.
Witness spoke to a man whom he thought had hit Minogue, and that man then attended to Minogue. Asked by Chief Detective Compton if he could identify that man in court, witness said he was not 100 per cent sure.
Helen Francis Sipos. wife of the previous witness, corroborated the evidence of her husband. She said that at a police identification narade of 14 men on July 14 she had identified the one she thought had been the aggressor. That man was accused, said witness. (Proceeding.)
