Berra borough's Off idol Price
NEW YORK.—American interests paid 297.600 dollars (EA95.000) for the Australian racehorse Bernborough, and 87,000 dollars (EA28.000) for Shannon, according to the 1948 edition of the official “American Racing Manual.” Mr Louis B. Mayer, the film executive. who bought Bernborough, is getting back some of his outlay in wellpriced stud contracts. Shannon’s buyer was a Los Angeles lawyei’, Mr Neil S. McCarthy. Shannon has had six starts in America, and has been placed three times.
Prescott Sullivan, columnist for the San Francisco Examined commenting on Shannon’s bad showing in the Bay Meadows Handicap, says: “One question seems answered. Shannon took on a bit more_ than he could handle when he invaded these shores. The only reason Shannon ran seventh on Saturday was that there were six better horses in the field.”
