Russell Man Buys Yacht Waitangi

AUCKLAND, Tue. (Sp.).—The A class keeler Waitangi, one of the oldest yachts on the Waitemata, has been sold by her owner, Mr W. A. Wilkinson, to Mr E. B. Chapman, of Russell, who intends to sail the yacht to Townsville, Queensland. Later he may undertake a cruise to the Pacific Islands. Built in Auckland, the Waitangi has an overall length of 56ft, a beam of lift 6in and a draught of 9ft. The Waitangi’s first success was in winning the Wellington provincial championship soon after her construction and the New Zealand championship at Lyttelton 10 years later.
