Confusion-Workers Greatest 1 Enemies
AUCKLAND Wed. (Sp.).— "We are Uving in extremely anxious times with the world situation deteriorating rapidly, the British Empire losing slices of territory, and organisations inimical to the Empire arising rapidly.
"In this country Communist groups are resolutely going about the task of destroying the structure of the country that has given them shelter.” The president of the Auckland branch of the British Empire Society (Mr H. E. Barrowclough) said this at a meeting of the society last night. A later speaker, Professor F. P. Worley, urged that the society take the lead in combatting disruptive elements plotting in the country. Professor Worley said that the people were waiting for a lepcl in dealing with Communists.
He said he was not against people holding advanced views, no matter hew radical, provided they upheld a democratic society within the Empire, but, those who worked to cause confusion and unrest were enemies of the first water.
This was particularly dangerous when the disruptive elements worked under the direction of a foreign power.
Thanking Professor Worley and other speakers, Mr Barrowclough said that the council of the branch would consider what could be done.
