Took Too Many Toheroas; Fined
For taking 50 toheroas from a Dargavillc beach, instead of the 30 permitted by law, A. C. Chcrmside and Charles Arnold Franks were each £2 with 10 / - costs by Mr W. C. Harley, S.M., at the Whangarei Court yesterday.
Mr L. A. Johnson appeared for the Marine Department, which prosecuted, and Mr J. D. Gerard for accused, who pleaded guilty. a Mr Johnson said the men, who were in a party of four, were seen carrying 205 toheroas from the beach. said when apprehended that they intended to count out the 50 each and return the rest to the beach. The excess toheroas were returned to the sand, said Mr Gerard. UNLICENSED PISTOL
James Leo Macken, who pleaded guilty, was fined £l, with 10/- costs, for committing an indecent act in a public place. Takara Mahuika Hare, for supplying himself with liquor, was fined £2. with costs 10/-.
Ray Mickial Doherty was fined £5, with 10/- costs, for having in his possession an automatic pistol without a licence.
Doherty, who pleaded guilty, said the pistol had been given to him by a returned serviceman, lie had kept the gun. as a souvenir.
The magistrate warned Doherty that tire maximum penalty for this offence was £2OO. He imposed the fine and the gun was forfeited.
