Stop-work Meeting At Engineering Plant
•WELLINGTON, Tue. (P.A.)—A stopwork meeting of men employed in the workshops of William Cable and Company, Ltd., engineers, is to be held today to discuss the workers’ claim for the provision of a cafeteria in the workshops and for improved washing facilities.
The meeting, which was the outcome of a discussion called by the shop committee yesterday afternoon, decided to request the employers to supply the desired amenities and. failing a satisfactory outcome, to raise the question with the Minister of Labour (Mr McLagan). Normal work was resumed after the meeting and the progress of operations on the Wanganella at the floating dock was not affected. -
It was emphasised by a union spokesman that there was no dispute involving a hold-up of work.
