Facilities For Spastic Paralysis Centre
DUNEDIN, Tue. (P.A.) After inspecting the facilities in Dunedin at the Public Hospital and Otago Medical School. Dr Earl R. Carlson, world authority on spastic paralysis, believes this city offers the best place in New Zealand for the establishment of a diagnostic and teaching centre. The presence of expert specialists who could help to instruct teachers from day and boarding schools for spastic paralytics made Dunedin the logical centre for instructional purposes, he said.
All phases of medicine were involved in the treatment of children suffering from cerebral palsy, and facilities for a well-rounded programme necessary both for diagnosis and treatment, were available in Dunedin. The equipment at the physio-therapy department of the Public Hospital was among the best he had seen anywhere.
