Sparks Shield Won By Advocats Team
The Sparks Shield, competed for by Whangarei inter-house cricket teams, changed hands during the week-end, tvhen a team from the Northern Advocate lifted it from the Lovatt’s Timber Mill team. Winning -the toss, the timbermen decided to bat immediately after rain and on a sticky wicket. In their first inning they compiled 23, Rawlins being first in and last out for eight. Dunn took five for 0; Dennis, five for G.
The newsmen replied with 37 (Sinclair 13 not out; Cunis, eight for 9). In their second knock, the timbermen made 53 (Rountree 22 retired; Dunn, five for 19; Dennis, two for 20). The Advocate made the necessary runs to annexe the trophy with six wickets.still in hand (Dunn 15).
