New Meeting With Cabinet Sought

WELLINGTON, Mon. vSp.) The national council of the Federation of Labour has made a request for a further conference with the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and the Cabinet .in connection with the carpenters’ dispute. No date has been fixed for the conference.

The carpenters agreed 10 days ago to hand over the dispute to the federation for settlement. When the meeting opened yesterday morning the president, Mr A. W. Croskery, said he had agreed to allow the national secretary of the Carpenters’ Union (Mr R. Stanley) to attend until Ihe stage was reached when decisions were being made. Mr Croskery then asked if it was the wish of members to admit the' Press.

Mr G. S. Ray. of Timaru, moved that 1 , the Press should be excluded. IN COMMITTEE

Mr A. Drennan, Auckland, claimed lhat the motion was out of order and asked for the chairman’s ruling. Mr Croskery replied that it was in order.

Mr Drennan pointed out that there was already a resolution, passed by the council in February, to admit the Press to all future meetings under certain conditions. He claimed that the proper motion should be that the meeting should go into committee. This was supported by Mr P. M. Butler, Wellington.

Mr Ray amended his resolution to cne that the meeting should go into committee, and this was carried by 34 votes to 11.
