Prosecuting Airlines For Not Paying Dues
MELBOURNE, Sat. (11.20 a.m.).— Two airline companies will be prosecuted for recovery of fees for air route facilities, stated an official of the Civil Aviation Department. The companies are Australian National Airways, for recovery of £84,000, and Ansett Airways, for £12,000. The Federal Government introduced charges for use of air route facilities on August 1, 1947. The fees are based on the weight of aircraft. A Civilian Aviation Department official said the time set down for payment of charges had elapsed, and steps would be taken to prosecute the companies.
