BEEF MARKET FIRM, SHEEP DULL OF SALE
RECORD prices were reported for two lines in Northland sales this week. An offering of 18-month-old Polled Angus steers brought £l4/5/-, and good quality three-year-old Friesian heifers at Maungak'aramea were sold at £2O. Prime bullocks went under the hammer at £l6/5/-, with fat cows bringing £ls. Beef still stands at £2/10/- a 1001 b.
Dairy types suitable for milk supply were keenly sought, Friesian cows bringing £l6 and Holsteins • at Towai £ll/15/-. Springing Shorthorn heifers brought £l3 under keen competition and all lines of springing
cows and heifers were wanted. Pigs were yarded in good numbers at Kamo and sold at late ruling rates, with heavy baconers fetching £6/13/-. Sheep were penned in smaller numbers and were dull of sale, wethers selling at £l/19/- at Kamo.
