LANG, Phone 29R. 720 BAY OF ISLANDS COUNTY COUNCIL LIGHTING OF FIRES IN THE OPEN PURSUANT to Section 18 (1) of the Forest and Rural Fires Act, 1947, the lighting of fires in the open air for any purpose whatsoever is strictly prohibited within the following areas: (a) The whole of the area contained within the boundaries of the Kerikeri and Russell Ridings. (b) Such area within a distance of half a mile of the outer boundaries of the water reserves owned by the County Council, Dairy Co., Freezing Co. and Town Board at Moerewa and Whangae. NEW ZEALAND EX-SERVICEMEN’S BUSINESS ASSOCIATION (INC.) A PPLICATIONS ’ for enrolment are invited from all ex-servicemen eligible for membership in the New Zealand Ex-Servicemen’s Business Association, Inc. The objects are to assist members in all matters affecting their rehabilitation or establishment in business and a wide range of contingencies is covered by the constitution. In particular, special attention- is being paid to the promotion of trade between exservicemen who are in business on their own account, the number so engaged in New Zealand being estimated to exceed 10,000. Branches will be formed in each town. An ex-service-men’s Trade Directory is now in course of preparation and for inclusion in this early application is essential. PUBLIC Notice is hereby given that in pursuance of the powers conferred upon it by the provisions of Section 151 of the Public Works Act 1908 and the Special Order making By-law of the Ist February, 1911, the Otamatea County Council at its meeting held in the Council Chambers, Paparoa, on Wednesday, 18th February, passed the following resolution:— “No person shall cart logs or firewood on any of the County roads with thp exception of Main Highways, unless prior application is made in writing to the Council, and in addition, rqyalty in accordance with the following scale shall be paid. “Timber (Logs)—Up to 1,000,000 s. ft. —3d per 100 s. ft. for Ist mile and Id. per 100 s. ft. for each mile thereafter. Over I,ooo,ooo—by special arrangement with the Council. “Firewood —3d. per ton (measure-' ment) for the Ist mile and Id. per ton for each mile -thereafter.” This resolution takes effect on the Ist day of March, 1948. On Thursday, 25th, and Easter Monday, 29th March, the usual 4.30 a.m. Whangarei-Opua and 10.0 a.m. OpuaWhangarei trains will NOT run. On Thursday, 25th, and Monday, 29th March, a special train will leave Whangarei 6.20 a.m., Hikurangi 7.i5, Otiria 9.55, Kawakawa 10.20 a.m.. arriving Opua 10.46 a.m. Return train leaves Opua 12.20 p.m., Kawakawa 12.50. arriving Whangarei 4.25 p.m. Both trains stop for passengers at all stations. During the. Easter holiday period many alterations will be made in the running of ordinary trains throughout the district.
