Matai To Repair Pacific Cable
WELLINGTON, Sat. (Sp.)— As the result of two breaks in the Pacific cable this week, the Government repair ship Matai was called to Wellington to undergo a refit as a cable repair vessel. The first break, in the AucklandNorfolk Island cable, occurred between Auckland and Doubtless Bay, while the other occurred about five miles south of the island, in the Norfolk-Suva cable.
As the Post and Telegraph Department has already established a landline between Auckland and Doubtless Bay, little interruption of cable traffic will be caused by the first break. This break occurred in about 200 fathoms of water, and the second in about 150 fathoms.
