EXCITING WEEK AT HEN ISLANDS
This week 10 strikes were registered in three days’ fishing off Mr L. Waldron's launch Rongotai at the Hen and Chickens Islands. Three striped marlin and a mako shark were landed.
Each of the three marlins gave spectacular displays. Considerable excitement prevailed especially in the case of a 2401 b. striped marlin landed by Mr J. A. Campbell, of Waverley. After the fish had fought for some lime it became so vigorous in its attempt to escape that it broke the rod and fouled the line. Not to be defeated, the angler cut the line and brought the fish alongside by hand, a feat only appreciated by another fisherman who has had the same experience. ! Other fish that were caught on the ; same trip were a 2221 b. marlin by Mr P. A.'ken (Waverley), a 2521 b. marlin I by Mr Bray (Rahotu), and a 1101 b. I mako shark by Mr H. Slater (Haw-1 era).
